We call the reader of this book to the stand. We call average Christians everywhere to come forward and speak for themselves.

In light of the witness against you, what do you have to say on your own behalf? Mr. or Ms. Christian, how do you live and how do you change your world?

(No answer. Somewhat bewildered.)

Let’s keep it simple. For instance, Christian, do you pray?

Yes, we pray at every meal. If I’ve told my children once, I’ve told them a million times, say “Thank you” to God for your food.

That is important, of course. But do you have a personal prayer life, a devotional time where you apply yourself to a proactive prayer effort.

At times I have done that, yes, sir, especially when we had to put mother in the hospital last fall.

Did you see that as an opportunity to call for the elders of your church to come, anoint her with oil, and pray a prayer of faith?

Oh, no, nothing like that. But we did call the church secretary and had her put on the prayer chain. That’s how mother’s friends knew she was in the hospital.

When you pray, is there present in your praying a conscious awareness of God’s Word, Scriptures that help guide your praying, on which you can build your faith and through which you can claim the promises of God?

You know, I’ve never really been someone to sit down and actually study the Bible. I just pray what’s in my heart.

So, do you believe God hears you when you pray?

I sure hope so. But you never know what God is going to do.

Do you understand what it means to express “amen” in your prayers?

Yes, I do say amen, because I want to bring the prayer to a proper ending.

Are you familiar with the concept of believing you have received when you pray?

(Perplexed and pausing) Could you repeat the question?
