“And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built.” I Kings 6:7
Solomon’s temple was the most glorious edifice erected for God by His people. More specifically it was erected by Solomon, who initiated and finished the temple when David, his father, was told by God that he could not build such a structure. But the temple was built with stone finished at the quarry and then transported to the temple site.
This is significant to the spiritual structure God wants erected in this day and age. This structure is called the church of Jesus Christ through which the manifold wisdom of God is made known. The church will not be glorious just because we make noise and say we are glorious. The only way for the church to be the glorious church is for its people to spend time hammering and chiseling away in the quarry ministry of prayer.
The rough edges of personality flaws and spiritual density, as well as the jagged edges worked by demonic activity over the years, are chipped away and smoothed over through the effectual fervent prayer of righteous people. These people know who they are in Christ Jesus and know the exceeding greatness of His power manifested toward those who believe. They are people whose faith is formed by the Word of God and whose boldness comes from a confidence in Jesus’ atoning work at the cross.
If your family, business, church, or even personal life is to become a reflection of God’s glory, then prayer and intercession are essential. If there is no quarry ministry of prayer, then there will be no glory reflected. The hammers and chisels of prayer must ring out in the prayer closets of all God’s people. We cannot afford to only pretend to be the glorious church for which Jesus is coming. We must be the glorious church and pay the price to be trusted with being reflectors of the awesome glory of God.
No way is this some kind of humdrum boring prayer ministry. The results in our heart from seeing the accomplishments come to pass that brings glory upon the people God loves is of unmeasurable delight. We go into our quarry to get anything done. Our expectation is high, our faith is resolute and the results have eternal value. We help finish what God wants finished through His Holy Spirit.
So get your hammer and chisel out, determine in God what needs to be done. Enter the quarry, and get it finished for Him.
No quarry, no glory.
